Engine question for everyone

First off a little background. I recently convinced my grandma to let me restore my grandpa's old farm truck that I rode around with him in for about 15 years. It is a 1971 C-10 Custom Deluxe Long Bed that originally had a 350. About 10 years ago my grandpa decided to replace the 350 (was having trouble with it) with a 307. The 307 had about 50000 miles on it at the time and probably has about 70000 on it now. It still seems to run strong and sounds pretty good, but it has developed an oil leak which my uncle says is around the master cylinder. I am trying to decide if I should just try to fix the leak and tune up the 307 or go for broke and buy a crate 350. I guess in a perfect world I would keep the 307 in it for 4 or 5 years and then buy a crate 350 when I have a little more money (Hopefully). What do you all think? Any suggestions, advice. Huh? Master cylinder is for the brakes, has brake fluid, not oil.

Run the 307, if it ain't broke....

Or clutch, but either way its brake fluid.

My 2 cents: make the 307 get you by until you can get the 350 that was in it rebuilt, if you still have it. That's a cool story you've got and would be cooler if the truck stays closer to what it was back when you and grandpa were toolin' around.

Could be.....but I don't ever remember seeing one with a hydraulic clutch.......

I've seen one with a hyd clutch, but I don't think it was stock.
(no way it was stock...I think AMC was the first to do a hyd clutch in 81 on the ...get ready for this...Eagle)

Early 1960's Chevrolet pickups used hydraulic clutches. Many people building street rods in the 1960's used the Chevrolet hydraulic clutch master cylinders on their cars. The hydraulic clutch and the master cylinder were one piece. A long time ago I owned a 1964 International Scout that also had a factory hydraulic clutch.

Definitely get your moneys worth out of the 307. I ran one for years everyday in my truck and liked that little engine. While you're enjoying driving the 307, save for the engine transmission of your dreams!

Good... I have been struggling getting to sleep thinking that AMC was the pioneer on ANYTHING.
Now... I wonder what there excuse is for having such a CRAPPY hyd clutch.
