Bendix brake booster not working with factory brackets?

I bought a Bendix remanufactured brake booster from Autozone and when I went to put it on my 72 C10, I noticed a problem. I should first clarify that the brackets I am using came from a 69 GMC 3/4 ton truck. I thought that they would be the same as the ones that should be on the 72, but when I put the brackets on the booster and connecting the pedal linkage rod, I found that the linkage sticks out about an inch and a half further than the surface of the bracketd that mount to the firewall. are the brackets different? Do I somehow have the wrong booster?

Here is a link to a picture of the booster i bought

There are two different brands of booster.I don't remember the other brand name.IIRC the brackets are different.I think one brand is one 1/2 ton and the other on 3/4 but I don't know the particulars well enough to tell you what's what.
One of the BB vendors should be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

Re: Bendix brake booster not working with factory brackets?

There are at least 2 different kinds of firewall booster brackets used. One set is shorter than the other and, if I remember correctly, works with the fatter smaller diameter dual diaphragm booster while the longer set works with the single diaphragm larger diameter booster. If you have a single diaphragm, take it back and see if the dual works with your bracket.

Re: Bendix brake booster not working with factory brackets?

There are after market brands of the boosters too. It is the type that determines what brackets will work - single or double diaphragm. Autozone lists the dual as part number 54-71011 as an example for a 69 C20 and the larger single as part number 54-73709 for a 69 c10. Both are manufactured by "cardone" and are listed as bendix type. Take a look at the autozone site. If you have 69 c20 brackets then my guess is that you will need the 54-71011.

Re: Bendix brake booster not working with factory brackets?

There is a thread in the FAQ section that shows the different versions of brake booster and MC's that our trucks have. You should check it out, it has some good info.
