Anyone ELSE think it's POINTLESS to paint the inside of the bed?

I just think it's a total waste of paint, to paint the INSIDE of the bed nice and clean..cuz I use my truck as a TRUCK, so it's just gonna get messed up again...what I DO plan on doing though, is getting a LineX spray-on bedliner (which they said can be applied over crappy rusted paint/body) so that way I won't have to worry.
What's everyone else's opinion on this subject...

i definitely wouldnt recomend putting anything over rust unless it is moisture curing, as POR15 is. if you were to LineX over rust, the rust would continue to deteriorate the bed under the coating, and you would have to throw the bed away in a few years. i've been thinking about doing blue LineX in the interior rather than carpet, and im considering a bedliner to match it.

pretty pointless I say to. If you use it for work put in LineX or something. And if it's for show I would either go with carpet, or use wood, that looks really shap if its all clean and the rails are polished.

Dont do the line-x. I had mine line-xed and the dam thing ripps all the time. Also peeling because of poor prep work. They do have a lifetime warranty but its a pain in the ass to take the truck in once a week to get it repaired. The stuff is to soft. If I was to do it over again Id go with rhino lining or some other spray in bed liner.

My new bed (if I ever find one) will get some industrial deck treatment (similar to the spray in liners but is primer grey) and put it on all the inside of the bed, and the insides of the bedsides, basically any place that would other wise be out of sight, or be seen from the inside of the bed, then I'll be putting a plywood liner in, and coating it with a black version of the industrial deck stuff.

NOTHING beats the look of a perfectly clean, undented, brand new looking painted bed!

Granted, if you use your truck like a truck it won't stay that way for long, but if you are building a street rod style truck like I am...then it looks sweet IMO.

I am painting the inside of my bed.

If you want a nice truck, but still plan to use the bed get it media blasted then use a spray in liner.
I wouldn't use a spray in liner on a bed thats all scratched and rusted...

Then again, I would paint the inside of the bed and put a bed mat down if it were mine

My new bed will never be used but I'm having it lined w/ Line-X. Both sides of the bed floor are being lined soon too.

for those of you going for performance, you might want to stick with paint. LineX/Rhino liners are not light.

I think I asked them that, and they said between 25-50lbs, which is ok by me, because I'll make up for that weight when I swap in the fuel cell.

I use my truck too, so I had the Rhino liner sprayed in when I had the truck painted. I didn't do anything special to the bed, it was still scratched, dented, and slightly rusty in areas. They just powerwashed it and sprayed it in. That was in August of 1998. No signs of any problems whatsoever. The liner is extremely tough, just like the ads say. I've had more problems with rust on the exterior of the bed sides popping out more than anything inside the bed.

Cost was $399 at the time. Rhino is the only way to go.

I don't agree.

These trucks are very light in the arse end...if you are going for performance of the 1/8 or 1/4 mile variety, then the added weight, whatever it may be, will only help (traction).

I think that putting Line-X is a better idea if you're going to use your truck but you shouldn't do it over rust

Just a suggestion.
