What years do i need for donor

What years do i need for donor for my 66? 73 thur 87 or 86? i thought it was 87, but i looked at an 87 and the engine cross member is welded to the frame and i thought i heard it was bolt up or did that stop at 86? can i swap upper and lower a arms from 87 to my 66?

well i just looked at my 66 and no way will the 87 i looked at work as far as upper a arms. maybe the truck is a late 87 and they changed stuff

or do i just use everything but the 87 upper a arms. this 87 truck is complete, running with TBI 350, 4 speed auto, ps,pb,ac, disc brakes. all the goodies i want to swap into my plain drum brake 6 banger 66.

doesnt the whole cross member unbolt and drop out? If so take the whole enchilada, steering box and all...even get ahold of captain fab for one of his power brake booster brackets, and take that too...

the cross member looks welded to the frame and upper a arms are conected to the top of the frame

thanks! so im guessing the truck i looked at must be 88. cuz there is no way i can unbolt the cross member

wasnt 88 the start of the rounded body style..? If so you need the last of the square body's

That truck would be considered an '88

You could use the spindles, rotors, calipers, etc. on your truck. You would just need to change your C10 lower control arms for a set of C20 lower control arms. There are details in the thread than Markeb01 linked to. It's the one about converting to 6 lug disc's using factory parts. The spindles on the truck you're talking about are the same as long as they are 5 lug or thr 6 lug light duty 3/4 ton. But be aware that the rear ends on the '88 and up trucks are a bit wider than the '71-'87's and a lot wider than the '63-'70's.

Thanks for the info! my 66 is a c-20. this truck im looking at is a 6 lug 3/4 ton. i dont know what to do. will te power stering from the 88 work? i kinda wanted to keep my truck 8 lug, but this truck i'm looking at is only $500

another question for ya. can i use 8 lug rotor in place of the 6lug from the 88? and should the 8 lug rotor be from an 88 also?

If you want to stay with the C20 8 lug, then you'd be better off finding a '71-'87 C20. On the '88 and up the spindles for the 8 lug hubs are different than the spindle for the 5 and 6 lug hubs. The 6 lug hubs are for the light duty 2500 (7300# GVW) whereas the 8 lug hubs are the standard duty 2500 (8500# GVW) And no the steering box from the '88 will not work on your truck. The '88 and up trucks have a much wider frame with the steering box on the inside of the frame. The '87 and earlier trucks have the steering box on the outside of the frame.
