HELP! Can't get my transfer case out
I'm replacing my tired old 307 with a new 350/330 crate motor. Thought the first sep should be to remove the transfer case, but I can't seem to get it out. I removed the 7 bolts holding the t/c to the transmission adaptor, and the 2 big bolts holding it to the frame, along with the driveshafts and shifter. The GM service manual then says to just "move the t/c back" to clear the body, but I've almost broke my crow bar prying at it. Anybody know what I've missed?

I think you missed a bolt; if you have a New Process 205 with the adapter for the TH350 transmission, there are 8 bolts between the transfer case and the adapter. The top one is pretty hard to see when it's installed...
When you get ready to put it back together, don't forget to replace the o-ring on the shaft and the seals in the adapter; you'll save a lot of cussing and heartache later...keeps the tranny fluic in the tranny instead of allowing it to get into the transfer case. Let us know how it goes... |

Hey. Be sure you get your buddy to come and help. That thing is heavy and hard to place on a floor jack. Also i agree with 71k5 about the seals. I think there only a few bucks.

Unless I'm replacing or repaining the transmission or transfer case while doing an engine swap, I don't pull it. Just take the radiator out, pull the dizzy, support the tranny, and yank the engine.
