Nicely Optioned Highlander Project
I haven't posted here before, so bear with me as I figure this out.
Along the lines of the '72 Highlander found in this thread... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...Cheyenne+Olive I came across a similar truck, but a 1/2 ton big block with dealer installed cruise control. I'm not looking for another project, but thought this truck might be of interest to someone. It is located at a dealer in Colfax, CA and needs just about everything, but is restorable. It is all original, except for the windshield and Rear View Mirror. The same dealer has a bare bones 1971 Cheyenne Super with an excellent engine, but someone put 8-lug 3/4 ton running gear under it. It is rougher than the '72 Highlander. If I was looking for a project, I would talk to the dealer about buying both, swap some parts to make restoring the Highlander easier, then sell off the Super. He's had the trucks for a while, so might be open to a package deal. |

When I first saw it on CL the description showed a picture of this truck, but described it as the '71 Super and was listed at $2500. After I spoke with the dealer and had him decribe the truck (I live 3 hrs away), we discovered the error and he corrected the ad and dropped it to $2K.
As I mentioned, he's had the truck for quite a while and it has been sitting. When I arrived to look at the truck, the brakes weren't working and the engine ran really rough (but didn't seem to smoke), so he's now got a truck that is alot more difficult to sell then when it first arrived. looks like a solid start. don't often see that color combo on a highlander. i like it, the gray plaid is rarely seen as well and i like it. guess i just like highlanders!!!

Believe me, I like the Highlanders, too (I am part Scottish, after all) and I like that this one is yellow. You know how it is; you can see the finished truck in your mind's eye and it looks so good. I'm sorely tempted to make a lowball offer, but the little guy on my shoulder keeps saying "Don't even consider another project until your '65 Nova SS is done...at any price!" I'll be looking at a '72 Cheyenne tomorrow, hopefully to take my mind off the Highlander. It's already restored.

i looked for one for ten years. i had one when i was twenty that was a big block solid medium olive highlander. i was willing to take any color, but when i found the hugger orange and white one of mine it was just a bonus.

thanks, my fetish started when i bought my first one. i've seen three short highlanders ever. two were dark blue and white ones. the other i know where it's at and i'd kill for it but the guys dad bought it new and you guessed it "i'm gonna fix it up one of these days" it's solid white with orange plaid, man it would be pretty fixed up. i've seen three big block highlanders, my green one, the one you posted, and a medium red with a white top. the one i've never seen another is one a guy i knew as a kid had. i didn't know what it was then, but remembering back i do. it was black with a white top and gray plaid. i've never seen another black one. seems the blue and green highlanders are most common. i'd buy every one i saw if i had the money, i love em.

I tried enlarging the Super photo to see the side emblem, but it was too blurry. However, I think it is a C/20 and was 8-lug from the git-go. It has an added auxillary fuel tank based on the door on the side of the bed behind the cab.

The Super has 10 (1/2 ton) emblems and VIN is CE141Z652186.
Highlander needs inner and outer rockers and cab corners. Passenger floor only needs small patch, but driver floor is fairly bad. I see a lot of flaky rust behind the windhield rubber on the inside along the top. Some rust on undercarriage (came from Idaho), but not too flaky, mostly heavy surface rust. Passenger side of box is rusty around wheel lip. Rear of bed is rusted through in places. Definitely restorable. If I had the time, I'd buy it because it is so nicely optioned and I like the color combo.

My first truck was a solid ochre shortbed 402/3spd.It had that grey plaid.It wouldn`t take alot to make that one nice.
Isn`t that just a blue & white CheyenneSuper/20?

The SERVICE PARTS INDENTIFICATION decal says order SLM915 on the bottom right corner. Would this be a special order that the original owner had to wait a couple of months for from the dealership? Other decals don't have this #. This raises of question of what percentage of trucks are special ordered compared to how many are preordered from the dealership with options they think you will like.
