ive had 5 trucks lately that all said m38 turbo hydramatic... is this just a general code for automatic transmission? or does it mean a specific trans like th350? theyve had 350's and 2 of them had 400's

Re: m38 trans mission code?

M38 was supposed to say th350, M40 was supposed to be th400, but they didnt always label it right, so it could be either a th350 or th400 being an m38

Re: m38 trans mission code?

this has been brought up recently... no clue what it is. M49 is for hydramatic, both 350 and 400, m35 is the powerglide, m16 and M17 are 3 speeds, m20 and 28 are 4 speeds, and the m10 is the overdrive.... there is no m38 listed.
