Re: Everyone needs this!!!!!

I dunno... GM had this on some new vechicles 07+ and paid everyone $100 to have it disabled because it would start fires. They wanted it gone instead of fixing it. Not saying this is going to have problems though.

Yep, had our suburban done. Now it's just a dead switch. Only remember using the thing one time, though, just cuz it was there.

Same here, I tried it on a bugged up windshield once to see if it worked as good as I heard it was supposed to and that was it. Got my gov't money and now have a dead switch. Some people that used it before the disable of it said it does work on bugs alot better but I sure wasnt impressed.

Re: Everyone needs this!!!!!

I wouldn't use it in cold weather. and having ice on the windshield and then using hot water/fluids or any temperature over what the windshield already is can cause breakage lol. then your out the money for that unit and then a new windshield. been there done that.

My exact thoughts when I got an email flyer on the heated wsw pump yesterday. I've seen a lot of cracked windshields attributed to having hot water poured on them by people trying to get rid of the ice in the morning. I used to have one of those perculator style block heaters for my 48 that went in the heater hose and if you left the heater turned to defrost the warm water pumping through the system and what little air movement was around usually kept the windshield clear or made it real easy to clear off in the morning. Blasted things are noisy when the truck sits under the bedroom window though.

That is exactly what I was thinking then I saw this post.

If my windshield is at -30 fahrenheit like it was last Saturday, and I dump fluid that is 150 degrees warmer on it, I think its gonna bust.

Don't ever put anything other than windshield washer fluid rated to at least -20 fahrenheit in your vehicle. Winter or summer. Unless you live where it NEVER gets below 32 degrees. I can't remember how many times I had to screw around with a customer's washer fluid system because they saved a buck and poured water in over the summer.

Re: Everyone needs this!!!!!

I haven't used an ice scraper in 20 or more years. I discovered that when you go out and start your truck, turn to full defrost, fan on high, and go back inside you can just hop in and drive away in minutes. It's amazing what a little forethought'll do for ya. I have a thing about adding more items to go bad on my simple vehicle. People with newer vehicles can use their remote start.

Re: Everyone needs this!!!!!

Not everyone "needs this". Another "Gadget" that I don't need.

Besides, my truck has NEVER seen snow and WILL never see snow. My truck will NEVER been driven in snow or any type of cold Climate. Just to keep things moving it get started and backed out onto the drive way every week or so.

I think for the "Daily Drivers" crowd this might be good thing though.
