My trany recently decided to blow up on me. It was a non rebuild saginaw. Now my question is if i wanted to change it over to say a muncie or supper t10 is there a diference in lenght? Will i have to build yet another drive shaft. I no on some of them they have the diferent input and output shafts Is that true? Thanks

Re: 4 Speed Transmission lenghts

I can't say for sure about all the different trans. but I replaced my three on the tree with a sm465 four speed and did not have any problems. Mine is 4wd and I had to get a different adapter to mate it to my transfer case but other than that it bolted right in with no drive shaft mods.

I do know that the sm465 came with several different output shafts. The 4wd had 10 spline output and the 2wd had 35 (?) spline output. The inputs were the same though I think. The truck version is basically a three speed, first is a creeper gear and never used unless your towing big weight. Some more info on them- http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/sm465.htm

Re: 4 Speed Transmission lenghts

You are wanting to put a car 4 speed in correct? If so it is a direct bolt in in place of the three speed (on column) pull 4 bolts and replace. I ran a m21 in my first truck for several years. Just be sure you dont get a vega trans (saginaw) as it will not hold up.
