Turn Signal Problems
My turn signals are now blinking very slow when the headlights are on ,they are normal with the headlights off .This just started a couple of days ago ,anyone know what my problem may be ? Dont know if it matters but its a 72 short fleetside truck. Thanks for any insight .

I'd start with making 100% sure that you're getting full voltage from the altenator. less than 12.75 or 13 at idle is weak. Also, check the battery charge before starting so you have a baseline.

The stock alternators on these trucks are fairly low output and have external regulators mounted on the radiator support by the horn. They can cause the headlights to flicker at idle and the turn signals to blink slowly. If you rev up the engine a little do the signal lights blink faster? You need to check the voltage output at the large red wire on the back of the alternator with a voltmeter and look for a reading of 14.5 volts with the engine idling. Then Check it with the lights on and the turn signals operating.
If the readings are good then you may have a bad ground on one of the signal lights or a bad connector in the turn signal circuit. Possibly a bad flasher. If you decide to buy a new alternator, get one with an internal regulator and we'll help you do the upgrade. Have you done any mods or additions lately like a stereo or halogen headlights?

No upgrades or radio (radio Delete ), what do I need to change to internal voltage regulator ? I did this to my Chevelle a long time ago but dont remember what I had to do.

Stopped by the parts store tonight and got a new flasher and it fixed my problem ,signals work great now. Is there another flasher somewhere for the emergency flashers ,they havent worked since Ive owned the truck.
