Bigger Fuel Tank!
Anyone know where or how to get a bigger fuel tank/cell in to the stock location on the 72 K5's??? I know the 73's and newer offered a 31gal but can't find the measurements for it? Any suggestions or ideas would be GREAT! Thanx!

I bought a 37gal tank from NorthWestMetalProducts in Oregon.
Wasn't cheep and it's big. I mounted mine higher than their factory mount and built a stout skid plate for it. http://www.nwmp.com/

Burt4x4 ? when you say you mounted it higher than the factory mounted what exactly did you mean, was it hard to do etc..? I would assume u did this for ground clearence
Like the tank and the skid plates a good idea just curious about any other info you had reguarding this. Are u using a electric fuel pump/mechanical, fuel injection/ carb any vacum issues? Thanks for any information! |

If you look at the pic you can see the two straps going under the tank. NWMP has welded "tabs" that hit the bottom of the frame. I cut these tabs off and welded new tabs lower down and shortened the straps to pull it up. I have a 3" body lift so I rased it about 2.5".
BTW ~ welding on the tank voids the warrenty..oh well it's made of steel and gonna last forever..longer than me hehehe I am running an external fuel pump mounted on the frame near the tank. The tank has 3 vent tubes that hook up to all the factory vent lines. I omited one vent and used it as a return line connection for my Edelbrock EFI.

I have the 31 gallon 73+ tank and love it. It is roughly 25 inches wide by 27 inches front to back by 11 inches top to bottom. You have to do a few small modifications to the cross member to get the straps to go on but I don't think its a big deal. My tank was in my blazer when I got it so I don't have experience making the swap, but it does fit in there real nicely. If you get one out of a salvage yard try to get the straps with it.

I have a leaky gas tank. It's the stock tank. Looking for some help with what I should go with as a replacement. Who's got the best tank and any upgrades I should do when installing the new tank? I'm okay with a 21 gal tank BTW. Hope to hear back! E

At the junkyard i saw a chevy 3500 (1994 i think). It had a plastic tank that looked like it might fit...might want to look into that...

In about 1973 you could get a 42 gal tank made of plate steele (no skidplate required) Has 4 tubes welded vertically thrugh the tank, and hangs on 4 1/2 bolts through the floor. Hangs a little low, and has been drug across more rocks than I care to count with no damage. But have no idea where you might find one today. They also made tanks that went where the side panels are, and another that layed on the floor behind the rear seat with a rubber mat on it, like a raised floor. You would think some of them would have survived somewhere. good luck on your search.
