DANA 60 front drive shaft lenght?

Im swapping out the 44 for the 60. Long time coming!

Does anyone know if I'll be able to use the 44 driveshaft or will I have to do something to make it work? shorten it? Thanks for the help

Honestly, I think It depends on the year. We had a 79 K30 we robbed the 60 out of swapped in a 84 8 lug 10 bolt and resold the truck. The joints were not the same. You should be able to get a combination U joint if they don't match though.

1 tons came with Dana 60s. The easiest way to tell is to look at the passenger side spring pad, dana 44s have two U bolts and 60s have one U bolt and two regular bolts.

Re: DANA 60 front drive shaft lenght?

Quick question, how many leaf springs do you guys have up front? the Dana I got has three from a dually.

My buddy has an 86 K30 reg cab SRW with 5 or 6 up front. Is this aftermarket?

Re: DANA 60 front drive shaft lenght?

Driveshaft: I would check to see that the shaft has 1" or so of additional compression by removing the ujoin u bolt and compressing it. If it does not have at least 3/4" of additional compression I doubt it will work. If you are planning to or already have installed a lift kit of 4" or more then it will probably extend or is extended enough for the 60 to fit just fine. My guess is it has room for that much compression.

Leaf spring: 3/4 tons typically had 2 leaf fronts, but some heavier GVW setups had 3 front. 1 tons typically had 3, however I had one (SRW) that had 2 and assume it was a lighter GVW 1 ton. (think it was 9200 or 9300#) I have also heard of a Heavy chassis package that gave 4 leafs ( I think this was a wrecker package) and have seen a couple of them all were chassis and cab trucks. Not aware of 5/6 leaf setups on K30's, not saying they never existed but if they did they were very rare.
