The chill's in the air here in NM, so I know lots of you North & East of me are really feein it.

Do any of U make special preps for winter? Snow plows? I know they're heavy. Does anyone here use those lighter weight plastic ones?

How about engine heaters? What do you use?

Has anyone figured out how to get more heat out of the stock units?

Let's see some of your 'tricks of the trade'

TOPLESS PRIME TIME in central Florida. I'm going to change to a 190* thermostat from a 160. Nice to have a little warm air on my feet on cool(50 degree) evening cruises.

Stabilizer in the gas, a final waxing, and the truck tucked away covered in my heated garage. I'll move it outside on some nice winter days and run it untill it is up to operating temp, and then put it back to bed. I put less than 300 miles on it this summer because I took the GTO out most of the time.

rsavage, that's a great album on your work. Looks like you painted it yourself at home? Was the red overspray a problem?

I wasnt able to tell; did you have lots of rust repair to do? If so, can you recommend where to buy the panels, etc.?

I love the monochrome. Did you not also paint the grill in order to maintain the stock look? I love the look of everything one color.

Stuck it in the barn with the rest of them. Unhook the battery, some stabilizer in the gas and wait for winter to be over.

As others have stated, this blazer has a lot of memories and will stay in the family. It has served dune duty for a long time....

Thanks. It was painted professionally - pics show it going out as a shell on my trailer and the shell returning home painted about 4 months later. Body shop guy does side jobs at his home shop. Red overspray definitely would have been a problem in my garage. Very little rust repair was needed and the Blazer retains all its original sheet metal except for rockers. The top of the windshield corners under the weatherstrip need some metal work. Can't recommend where to buy panels as all that I bought were rockers. Truck was super solid and supposedly came from California. I bought it from a guy a couple hundred miles from me 4 years or so ago. Obviously, it was not a New York truck. I did a complete restoration and took it to a lot of shows over the last the last few years. Grill is a stock replacement/reproduction. It is for sale on the boards actually. I believe it is one of the nicest out there - but I'm biased

Tell me about your top hanger. I see the 2 yellow straps hooked to the bottom, but I cant tell if there's any type of winch. I think I see some other lines there, but cant figure it out.

Thanks, and yes I have a lot of old stuff to try to maintain.

Top hanger is just the two straps you see. I put some heavy cardboard under the edges to protect the fiberglass from the straps. I'm typically a one man show out in my shop so the other lines you see are the snatch blocks I used to raise it higher. The process was to progressively get it on to my tallest vehicle (box van) by moving onto a lifted K5 and then to the van. Pulled the van up in the area I wanted it to hang and then snatch blocked it in tandem. Then I snugged the yellow straps under it. That was probably 10 years ago as the top never goes on it.

It is a five month period when you can get lots of work done on your classics because you sure as heck can't drive them in the snow, salt, slush, and ice.
Thank God I have a heated garage and a car hobby. I hate winter and would go stir crazy without something to work on and make me forget the crappy weather.
