700r4 connections

I installed the dipstick tube into my new 700r4 yesterday, and notice another hole about 3" behind the dipstick hole in the tranny. It has a similar rubber gromet on it. What's it for?

and one more thought....

Do NOT fire up the engine until you get the TV cable installed/adjusted. Rumor has it you can burn up the trans in a matter of minutes without it!

iT IS NOT A RUMOR.The tv cable regulates the fluid pressure. If not adjusted right it will overheat quickly.Go to www.700r4.com read about the tv.

I'm concerned

guy I'm concerned about your post because you don't have a tv cable in your new tranny and you didn't say what it was going into or what setup You have. The other guys are correct saying that the tv cable has to be set up properly in order to shift right and to avoid damage. They are a little paranoid though because the tv cable will control line pressures for the shift points and until the trans is put into gear no fluid transfer will occur. The primary damage occurs when the transmission is in overdrive and the torque converter runs unlocked. This generates large amounts of heat and transfers to the clutch paks and if it exceeds 250 degrees it may damage them beyond repair. part of my concern is if you have the correct adapter for the tv cable mount at the carburetor. Thats why I asked you what application you were using. There are many useful sources of information about the 700r4 and how to setup the tv cable. The link above is one of them and there is a thread in the FAQs about them also.
Hope this helps.

Oh, of course. For some reason I was picturing the tv cable hookup on the drivers side. I have the TV made EZ kit on its way from BTO, and won't be connecting the flexplate until that kit is installed. Thanks for the info - got it now. We're not quite mobile yet, so I've got plenty of time to screw things up in the next couple of weeks :-)
