FS: Original AM/FM Radio...

For Sale is a original am/fm radio with original intact wiring harness and knobs. I have never had it installed or listened to it because because PO had this in a box when I bought the truck 3 years ago. Selling as is. Definitely good driver quality, knobs rotate freely and am/fm selector switch works just fine.

Sorry searching the radio high and low I am finding no #s on it, outside of this one on the resistor that is attached to the side heat sink. It reads GM DS-501 7518? Let me know where the serial # should be?

Seems like for that kind of $$$ you'd be willing to hook it up and make sure it works. I'll be doing this with a simple AM radio I want to sell for alot less $$$.

I know it has Delco written on the right side, but the font on the station numbers is different than the truck AM/FM's I've seen. It may be out of a van. Here's a pic of an original one from a 72 Chevy Truck. I'm not interested, just don't want anybody to be sorry.

the dial is van but the lense is correct for a 71-2 pickup. replacement lenses are available so it may have been swapped out by the p.o. still a good price though.

I also wonder why I see these for sale and guys usually can`t say if they work.I don`t get it.Ypu just hook up to a hot wire or battery posts and hook up a speaker.If you don`t have an antennea just hook it up in your truck.

The truck am/fm is the only one that has the antenna plug into the right rear side. The Van AM/FM radio's have the antenna plug in through the bottom plate. You can change the lense to look like a truck radio and the part number tag is usually stuck on the left side of the radio but that too can be stuck on a van radio----check the location of the antenna wire receptical.
PS, these radio's are prone to transistor or diode failure which can cost a minimum of $175. to repair so keep that in mind. Huck

Unless you buy a refurbished unit there is no gurantee that once you install your radio that it it will work like a new one. It's a toss up when purchasing these radios but then again the AM-FM are not as easy to find. It all comes to what it's worth to the buyer.

Freddy - according to your PM I'm up(it's my turn). There have been too many questions raised - not your fault - to make me comfortable. I will have to pass on the purchase of this AM/FM. I wish this were not the case as I could use another AM/FM.

Hey check out evilbay or Hemmings and see what these radios are bringing. I am not saying that $185 is a low or high price but this I know... AM-FM prices will go up just like truck tilt steeering wheels.I bought my truck tilt for $125 a few years ago and my 67-72 truck AM-FM radio for about the same amount. I think compared to todays prices those were good deals. jmo

Post a pic of the bottom or back of the radio, and I think the questions will be answered. That is until they ask about the missing chrome wheel behind the tuning knob. Good luck with your sale.

sounds like you guys are being a little hard on Kfreddy. The comments about it being a van radio and I.D.ing it is great. but I don't think were suppost to comment on the price being too high, or being prone to transistor or diode failure which can cost a minimum of $175.
I didn't notice the missing chrome wheel behind the knob. good eye chip maybe freddy should put that in the for sale post. the knobs look different than 396muncie's

Yup. Knobs are incorrect. But like you say, you can ask anything you want for what you are selling. It's up to the buyer to use discretion.

The constructive comments are fine as they educate all of us but as far as knocking the price it's the buyer who will determin this. If the buyer of this radio wants it and pays $185 then we all should be glad for two reasons...The buyer found an item that he/she has been looking for and the seller has sold a product at the going market price. I think if an item doesn't sell that will then say the price is to high. IMHO this price is resonable. Good luck KFreddy...

I asked why no one ever seems to test these before selling.I mean about every one I ever see.It just baffles me,that`s all.Not honing in on Kfreddy.It`s kinda important to know.I see these all the time and pass because the owner doesn`t know condition when it`s just too easy to check.Either it works or it doesn`t.Condition is an important factor to me when deciding on a purchase,right?

Also,it`s best to know what you`ve got before pricing and selling.I`d have to check,but that`s prolly a rule,too.It helps avoid all this side talk.There`s a thread right now where a guy who knows his stuff biught an AM/FM off the 67-72 parts board from a member that turned out to not be a truck unit or a 67-72 anything.The sale has been returned and refunded as a result of the discovery made by the purchaser.No harm done in the end.But,why go through all that when it should be avaoidable.All questions can be answered right here on this sight,as we all know.How about a "How do I test a radio out" thread?
