Possible truck in my future...need advice

guy has a 72 cheyenne super camper edition thats willing to trade for my 95 tahoe DD. no pics yet as he has no way of getting/posting em. though i can go to him and get em to post and see what the general consensus is of the deal. my tahoe is a good dd but ofcourse not like a new vehicle. his truck is a 402/400 with some options but no AC. its realitively original with a few items changed(steering wheel rims and such)and the only rust is the drivers side rocker, which he said wasnt real bad. ill try to get pics over the weekend to show the truck and its condition. so post thoughts and or fears/ideas on this. guy said its a dependable DD also. heres a couple pics of my ho...so iltimately,id like to know if the trade is worthwhile and a good deal for me.

got some pics..had small amount of rot on rocker and a tad up into the well area under the kick panel vents. other then that the rust of cab was solid.

tough call! if the 402/400 ran and shifted perfect i'd do it otherwise that tahoe is a nice looker!

good luck deciding!

agreed. Your DD will get better mileage and have fewer reliability issues (unless you know something you're not telling).

However make him a cash offer and if he accepts you'll be able to drive it for awhile to assess it's condition. Then sell the DD.

Driver's rocker looks like rust is ready to erupt.

Re: Possible truck in my future...need advice

how many miles are on the Tahoe? if under 150K then i'd keep it and buy the 72.

I'm thinking the Tahoe is a $5K truck, but the 72 isn't... do you have another vehicle to drive?

I have no idea what your tahoe is worth, but in my opinion the 72 is worth $2,000 to $2,500. That kick panel rust may decrease the value, depending on how bad it is. I also wonder why the truck was repainted. Was it in an accident? Was there rust repaired?

I agree with this man 100%. If he gives you $2500.00 to $3000.00 then you have a deal. If your ho had serious issues, I would say go for it.....but since it doesn't it seems you are getting the short end of the stick.

Re: Possible truck in my future...need advice

I would not do an even trade, he would have to give me the truck and at least 2,500 for the tahoe..

Re: Possible truck in my future...need advice

I think you're Tahoe is worth a little more. 2 door Tahoes are not that common. That 72 will be an absolute P I G on gas. I know you're Tahoe doesn't get economy car mileage, but just to be on the safe side as far as gas is concerned, I figure on doubling what I was paying in the Tahoe to decide if I could even afford the gas.

Re: Possible truck in my future...need advice

I agree 72 is a $2000 to $2500 truck in your area and is 10 mpg truck.I would not trade and have as a daily driver in this economy with no other transportation. If he will give you around $2000 plus the 72 then you could buy a small cheap gas mizer and drive the 72 once in awhile.

Re: Possible truck in my future...need advice

Keep the Tahoe, that 72 is not worth near what that Tahoe is. Heck, they didnt even paint it the right color. That 72 looks like a $2500.00 truck tops

Sharp Tahoe. I would keep the Tahoe and save up for a classic to add to the fleet. You can't beat having a sharp looking, reliable DD AND a classic
