Re: Straight 6 to SBC ?'s
Welcome to the boards !
Whats wrong with the 6? They have a cult-like following now and They're great motors for about everything (except going fast). they look slick with a header, finned valve cover and a sidedraft carb setup Seriously though -- i dont know all the details, but th topic has been covered before -- maybe you could do a search and find some old threads on it. try this one http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=88711 Personally, i'd just keep the 6 over a small block (if it runs well, that is) -- but a big block is a worthwhile swap, or even a new-tech LS series motor if u can find one

Re: Straight 6 to SBC ?'s
You can do the SBC as a straight swap. You will end up with your distributor very close to the firewall, especially if you swap out to HEI. some people move the motor mounts to the "front" location (~1" I believe). but then you have to move the tranny & lengthen the driveshaft.
I would replace the motor mounts while you're doing this swap just because there is no easier time, then when you don't have an engine in the bay...

Re: Straight 6 to SBC ?'s
Just a few notes from my memory (I did the same swap)....
Different motor mounts If changing tranny-different tranny mount Radiator with tranny cooler ports (optional) Your RPMs will scream for you to change the gear ratio in the rear. Different steering column (optional) if going with auto tranny. Small odds-n-ends will also pop up, so have a few bucks set aside.
