85 c10. what are the best fitting long tubes for a 6.0 swap?
I have searched and read for a week. some use the pace setters for the f body, some have tried doug thorley headers, some do the s&p headers.
I want the best fitting long tubes that i can get. I prefer some 1 7/8" primaries but 1 3/4" would work. what headers did you use and with which engine mounts. will truck headers fit? thanks

Trans-Dapt Performance Products 4572 from summit this has to be the most questioned thing about gen 3 conversions in these trucks

Re: 85 c10. what are the best fitting long tubes for a 6.0 swap?
You could get a set of the big block full length headers and fit them with a set of LSx header flanges and modify a few tubes as needed like the third gen guys do.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G9011/ $90 for 1-3/4" tube full length headers designed for our trucks to start from. I have seen the LSx flanges for $60 somewhere but don't have it handy. The GM ones are $52 each and are 3/8" thick so worst case you would still have under $200 into them. I have a CAD file of the flanges and planned on getting a set water jet cut locally but if anybody on the board can do it I will share the file.

anyone that puts a 1 1/2" primary on a LS series engine should have left the old engine in there. sorry but that is poor planning. i have thought about the big block headers and may go that route. I have read about using f body headers and have a set lined up that i can use for mock up.

i am saying that 1 1/2" primaries will hurt the performance of a 6.0L lsx engine and i have no intention of spending my hard earned $$$ to get less HP out of my combo. you do as you please and have fun doing it.

well mine was a diesel and tired at that !!so i converted it to the 5.3 are you saying i wasted money putting on my 1 1/2" shorty headers? that claim a %15 increase in power?? sorry if you dont understand what i typed but theres nothng wrong with runnng 1 1/2 primaries on a stock LSX engine!! its your personal preference to use larger primaries , i woundnt say usng the 1 1/2 inch primaries poor planning!!

Re: 85 c10. what are the best fitting long tubes for a 6.0 swap?
Thats good to know. I really dont want to run the S&P headers. Dont care for the collector design. Would much rather have a true full length big tube with real collectors. You have any info on the mods needed?

Re: 85 c10. what are the best fitting long tubes for a 6.0 swap?
The big block & LS engines have very close tube spacings so mostly what is needed are to make some cuts in the tubes in a few places to bend the tubes into alignment with the ports of the LS header flange then weld them back together.
The cuts don't have to go all the way through the tubes only a little past 50% will allow them to be bent slightly for realignment.
