Just bought my first old truck!

Well, I've been lurking here for a while, and I've wanted one of these since I first saw one on the cover of 4 wheelr when I was 14. Just bought it this afternoon;in 3 weeks I'm going back with tags to pick it up and drive it home

1969 CST/10, it's a 4x4 SWB stepper. All original truck, 307 / SM465 combo. Runs and drives pretty good. And showing less than 68k original miles!

Everything is there and just as it should be, for which I am quite happy.

Bad news (no surprise for a New York truck) is rust. Rot in the front fenders, rear fenders, floors, etc. All of it has been patched or repaired and the truck is solid, but it was not done with new panels, etc so once I take it off the road next summer I have my work cutout for me.

Good news is the story behind it. 2nd owner, older gentleman. It's a one family truck. The current owner was actually at the factory in Tarrytown with his uncle when the truck was built back in '69 .

I have the original chassis overhaul manual for the truck sitting here on my desk, and all the other owners manuals and shop manuals are around somewhere, the owner just had to find them.

Needless to say, I'm stoked

Re: Just bought my first old truck!

Great find! I'm just curious about the cover truck you saw. Was it a red 72 stepside with ground hog tires? I remember that cover from when I was about 10 or so. Unfortunately, the magazine burned up in a house fire. I always wanted a red 4x4 72 stepside because of that cover!

It was that red ragtop blazer that got me started, actually. I fell in love with the '69 front end. I still have the magazine at home (it's well worn by now!)

Re: Just bought my first old truck!

Went and picked it up today.

About 630am, at a truck stop 90 miles into my journey

Loaded up, about 730am

A few poses when I first pulled her off the trailer

And finally, about 4pm, new tires!

Very nice! I don't remember ever seeing the block warmer as an option before, but out here , you wouldn't. It's supposed to be 80 degrees by Thanksgiving. Keep us posted!
