Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

I am looking to purchase a fuel cell. Who would you choose? Boyd seems to be a little cheaper and offers a discount, but to me their tanks seem to hang down to low. I have yet to see a Fuel Cell Guy tank installed. To make my decision easier I would love to see some pics of both tanks installed and comments on either one as of quality and fit. Thanks....

Try a search for Boyds. Lot of us got 'em. I like mine and it fit like a glove.

Re: Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

I have spent a lot of time searching. I have seen where people say the Boyds tank didn't fit good, and could be moved up in the frame an inch and where the filler tube didn't clear the frame. I have also seen where people love the Fuel Cell Guy tank and also where a person had one leak and had to put J.B Weld on it. This is why I am asking this question. I just want a few more opinions and pictures of them installed.

Re: Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

I just ordered one from Fuelcellguy. I based my decision on his reputation and amount of possitive comments on his tanks. He also installs the sending unit and will tweak his design if you need him to. Not saying Boyds aren't as good, just my 2 cents.

Re: Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

I have heard good from both guys. I got mine from fuelcellguy (mostly because he has been around a long time) and I am very satisfied. He also helped fit my fuel filler to a unique location since I already had the bed wood cut from the older tank.

Re: Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

I'm ordering one from Scott's. They are super clean and fit really well. I'm laying frame so hanging below the frame was a huge no no. Contact Scott's hot rods and ask for Justin. He can take care of you. I'll send him a copy of this thread and he can chime in.

I bought a Boyds tank and I love it! I bought based on reviews from other folks on the board. Here are a couple photos of mine installed....

Re: Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

Thanks for the pics. The Boyd tank looks to me as it could be moved up an inch or so inside the frame. It also looks as though the vent hits right where the bed cross sill sits. Is that right or is it the pic making it look that way? How far down does it hang below the frame?

Re: Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

I used fuelcellguy with no regrets. Just had bad luck with the wheel company boyds, and I know they are unrelated but just left me hard to trust. Fuelcellguy kept me updated on progress and when a delay was expected he called me and told me about the situation, which I totally respected.

Re: Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

Stepper guys that are bagged, can you post pics of where you place your gas tank?
My 5 gallon tank is under the bed in the rear, and my compressors are in the middle - just wondering if any of these tanks will fit closer to the cab, under the bed

Received my tank today, looks and fits awesome. I think I made the right choice. I would highly recommend FCG.

Re: Boyd or Fuel Cell Guy????????

In my defense regarding the Clyde65 issue, he brought me an original tank out of a car that had radius corners (8" radius) which I told him that I could not duplicate. He said square corners were fine. Then, he tried to install the tank and it wouldn't fit because of the square corners. He had another shop roll up a tank with radiuses which he brought back to me. I welded the tank up and returned it back to him. Overall, I made nothing on the project after welding up the second tank. The end result for me was that he advised me that he was happy. Just want to show both sides of the story. When any issue has ever come up with one of my tanks, I have bent over backwards to make it right. If there has ever been an issue and I wasn't contacted about it, I couldn't possibly do anything about it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks, Mark
