1966 c10 rear end

Does anyone know if I use a 72 5 lug rear end,can I run 8 in. rallies and still lower my truck?It is a stepside if it matters.Thanks.

I have that exact set up, mine is lowered 4" in rear, I have 275/60/15 BFG tires on it and nothing rubs. mine is fleet but shouldnt matter

2nd gen axles are IIRC 1.5 or 2 in wider

...on fleetsides it"s a safe bet to trim 1-1 1/2" out of the rear fender lip...start at 1" and adjust from there...

The '71 and up rear ends are 1.5" wider than the '70 and older rear ends. If I'm not mistaken, the stepsides have slightly less room for tires than the fleetsides.

Stepside with notched frame and lowered about 5-6", with almost 14" of tire under it on a 12inch wide rim. Bed is cut tho.
