Talking New member here

hey guys my name is bob from suisun city california. i just bought a 71 chevy c10 and want to start restoring it. i think i can get a lot of help from you all as it seems like you guys know more about all this than i do. LOL

i have done some of the basics like new plugs, wires, battery cables/terminals, and alternator. the bench seat was really bad so i found a new one for $30 that is in really good shape out of a 73 ford f 250 and i put that in two days ago and im gonna recover it later the way i want to match the interior.

the engine is a 307. i dont know much about cars or anything so im in the process of learning.

if you guys can give me tips on where to find parts (hard to find ones i mean) like the windshield washer pump i need and an old style steering wheel to replace the terrible looking one i have now, or any ideas you might have would be great. thanks guys

Bob

Re: New member here

thanks bowtieboy93, those links are awesome!!! its dangerous for me to look at those sites because i want so many things i found there!!!! LOL every time i go to those sites i need to tell myself, "i have bills to pay too!" LOL but all in time ill get everything i want for my truck.

hey got a question, my hood is not lining up at the point near the windshield, i have already tried to adjust the bolts at the hinges but when i do and finally get it to line up right, the hood does not want to latch properly in the front. by not lining up right i mean the hood is up higher in the back than it is in front. adjusting the bolts just dont seem to be working i tried 2 or 3 times and every time, i fix the back while messing up the front. WTF???? how can i fix this? you think i need new springs on the hinges? they seem to be working but maybe they're just too old and not as strong as they need to be to hold down the back of the hood? Possible???

Re: New member here

In all likelihood, the springs are weak, and the hood hinges are tweaked. If you want to check with a local dealer, here's the GM parts numbers for the hinges: LH = 391-1705; RH = 391-1706. They're in their parts catalog under Cat. Gp. 08-015. The springs are under group 08-013. I don't have the part number in front of me, but I can get it.

Welcome from Texas and also a 71' owner. I grew up in Fairfield, but haven't been there in ~20 years, at least. Still have family in Fairfield and Vacaville though.

Cheers,
David

Re: New member here

From cold western Michigan.

I would pull the hood hinges off and take them out of the equation. Then lay the hood on the truck and see if it lines up correctly. If it doesn't then you may have to tweek the fenders or whatever is out of line. If the hood looks good then it's the hinges or weak springs like the other guys have said.
Good luck and send us some of your weather. LOL
