Cross member
Will a cross member from a mid 70's early 80's chevy pickup for an automatic work in a 67 chevy pickup?

I am planning the same thing, been told that the only thing you will have to do is pick up one hole that does not line up with the new member. My front crossmember will be here tomorrow and after i get it cleaned up it wil be going on my truck.

Are you asking about the front suspension crossmember or the trans crossmember?I think both work but you need to specify so we can give a definite answer.

not sure on the auto trans member - but i used an 80's Z-28 trans member in my 87- i shimmed it the get the proper height - i worked great because it had humps on either side to clear the 3" dual exhaust. imo, the auto crossmember in the 87 that i had was awkard in that it attached on the outside of one frame rail and the inside of the opposite. if you are going with a dual exhaust - i would recommend the z-28 (if it fits in the 67-72) or go with an after market unit. i got one from POL and i am impressed with it but i have not ran exhaust.
as for the front member for the suspension - yes it works see pic attached pic of the POL crossmember |

I was planning on doing away with the old cross member that goes on the rear of the motor and the bellhousing. I was going to just put a cross member at the rear of the transmission. I picked up a 454 at the swap meet last weekend and I have a 350 turbo that came out of my Chevelle. So I have a power plant now.

I ran acrossed a 69 long bed pickup up today. Complete pickup with 307 motor and automatic so I just bought the whole truck. Now I can put all the automatic stuff over on mine. Plus the old truck has a good windshield so I can use it too. I will just have to part the rest of it out when I get done. Descent cab. Bed is pretty rough. 307 runs but smokes. Tranny seems to work ok. Now if I can find someone wanting a 307 motor.

67Step. If I read your question right you are going from a standard trans to an automatic - right?
If that is the case then you should remove the stick trans crossmember that is at the bellhousing area and use the auto crossmember at the rear of the transmission. After getting your donor truck home today, you probably already figured that out. Have fun - Bob

Yes I figured that out. I got everything I need to put my 700R4 in my truck now. 454 and a 700R4 with a 3:73 posi rear. That should go down the road well.
