4 Door 72 GMC Fact or Fiction

Guys I just ran across a truck on cri@@list that the owner is claiming that the truck is factory built and is rare. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, how many were produced?

less than 100 left? I seriously doubt that.
I know we have a few members who own these.

Re: 4 Door 72 GMC Fact or Fiction

The fact is these truck were built buy a body company and not the GM "factory". There were two companies that I know of,Scott-Bilt and Alton. They are rare. How does he know how many are left. You have to wonder where the false claims and exaggerations end with such a seller. If it's priced right, just buy it. But,don't go by anything he says. Was it owned by a little old lady who scooped up her five girlfriends once a week to play bingo?

Here's a link to Alton and an attached Scott-Bilt ad:

Re: 4 Door 72 GMC Fact or Fiction

it's also a 2x2 so it's 2 wheel drive and has 2 wheels. Sounds super rare to me, maybe it's the harley option. Looks like an ok truck otherwise. I wouldnt believe a word the owner says. The guy ant even ount how many wheels the truck has, I hope he hasn't done any custom wiring.

Yes, the fact that it's a 2X2 makes rarer than being a crew cab...LOL

Maybe he should list it as a motorcycle....oh boy...where do these guys come from??

That would be sweet with a Cummins and a Dana 60 under the front.

$5500 might not be real bad for it.

These trucks werent built for looks..it was all about giving the customer what they wanted and getting it out the door as quick as possible. By shortening the bed to match the frame instead of lengthing the frame for the added cab length they could put out a truck much faster and cheaper.

And on another side note, the Alton Company built C-40 and up crewcab trucks for GM well into 80s and I believe is still doing custom conversions.

I understand. From what I have read they were used by a lot of railroad and larger construction companies...so function over form......

WOW!!! I knew I liked this site. There is always a member here that can supply a correct and useful information on just about anything with these trucks.

I think owning this truck would be great just to have something unique for conversation. But I agree what were they thinking on the rear doors. The design is definitely not very appealing.

This truck would look bada@# sitting up on some 44s.

To bad they wouldn't have lengthened the frame 6 more inches and put a longhorn box on it.
