Looking at buying a 55 6100v dumptruck
Hey guys, I am looking at buying a 55 6100v dump truck. The rockers need replaced, hood has a 4"x3" hole in the lip and have been welded on, the fenders have a few dents and have been welded on and the grill looks cracked in a few places. The guy is looking for $1K out of it. It runs well (235 6 cylinder that leaks a little oil) and the hydraulic dump box works. Is this a decent price and is there a website where I can find replacement fenders, grill and hood? I am gonna use it to haul firewood and gravel now and then. Looking to restore it over time.

Re: Looking at buying a 55 6100v dumptruck
Last week I took a 97 caddy to the crusher and saw a earlier 50's 6100 dump truck crushed under three other trucks made me want to cry.
There is one similar a few hours from me for sale asking 950 http://springfield.craigslist.org/cto/2184459907.html

I think it's pretty neat too. I have looked and cannot find very many 55 6100's like this with the shorter wheel base. I imagine most of them were used hard and are sitting on farms or where taken to the wrecker

Re: Looking at buying a 55 6100v dumptruck
The owner is sending me more pics of the rougher areas. Will post them when I get'em. I will probably buy it, good truck for hauling wood/gravel-all while looking good doing it

That's a great deal. What a stylish way to take care of business around the property.

Re: Looking at buying a 55 6100v dumptruck
Grandpa bought a 57 GMC like that with the short gravel bed and all. His is alittle rougher than that one but has a good runin 270 in it. Needed wheel cyl. work and a clean gas tank, for 600 bucks. I would think that it would scrap for around that. If you planing on hauling a load with it you need to check the tires out real good, we bought a 10 wheel that had good lookin tires on it but the first load with them, they came apart big time.

Re: Looking at buying a 55 6100v dumptruck
Anyone know how much these tires are going for? After I buy it, I am pretty sure that I will have to replace them all before long.
