Project THOR Shop Truck
Hey Folks,
Been spending more time down here now that I made the decision to abandon my K20 build, Project Zues. It was a tough decision, but that resto was supposed to be done with my late brother, and I just couldn't bring myself to work on it...too many memories and it wouldn't be the same without him. So I picked up a decent 97 Yukon in March. It was a nice truck for up here, needed little body work and was relatively clean for 140k, and the deal was decent. My goal is to make it a nice daily driver. As of right now I'm a Chief in the FD up here so I have a 13 F-150 I drive everyday, but my term will be up at the end of 2014. So when I was looking to replace my old K20 shop truck, I wanted something I could drive all the time, was a little easier on the back, and wasn't too bad on gas. Plus I had a 87 K5 back in high school and I've always has a soft spot for the full size blazers. I needs some work, mostly cosmetic, a little mechanical. So my goals are to have a nice clean DD, it does plow snow good. Here is what I would like to do: New Carpet...need to find something decent. I would like to swap the bench seat for buckets and a console Maybe freshen up the engine, has some lifter noise sometimes Convert to manual 4x4, not that I have any issues just something I would like to do SS Brake Lines New Fuel Lines Fix the A/C Window Tint Maybe a long ways off do a solid front axle swap...maybe, I enjoy the nice ride 2" lift Figure out how to install the overhead console I bought I will post up some pics when I get home. I hope to learn a lot from you guys down here, and I hope I can be a contributor as well. Sarge

Re: Project THOR Shop Truck
And here it is as it sits today. What I have done to it so far is a set of OE flares painted silver, fixed the rot on the drivers side, need to do the passenger side this year, and it needs a set of doors, the bottoms are rotted.
After that Im going to paint the lower part of the truck the same color as the flares, I also removed all the side moldings I think it looks a little better without. I also installed some OEM headlamps and turn signals, going to install some OEM tail lamps soon as well. Im looking for a new carpet so if anyone knows a good quality carpet out there let me know. Thanks, Sarge And you can see my old K20 I sold in the back ground...that guys drives to poo outta that thing...

Re: Project THOR Shop Truck
Truck looks good! I would try LMC for the carpet. I bought some carpet from them for my 75 and the quality is excellent.

Re: Project THOR Shop Truck
I'd try stockinteriors.com , pricing is usually better than lmc and they sell acc carpet kits

Re: Project THOR Shop Truck
ACC is just a company that makes most of the carpet kits sold by the vendors. Either source mentioned should be good for you Yukon. I got a better deal from stock interriors when I did my 83, so I used them and no complaints.

Re: Project THOR Shop Truck
Ok been a while since I posted anything on this truck. So after last years fiasco of having someone do the drivers side for me as a favor I learned that He took me for a ride. So he was supposed to replace the lower 1/4 panels and the wheel arc on the drivers side. Well he was kind enough to keep the panels for himself and just filled the wheel arch with fiber glass and slapped my flare on.
Lesson Learned....fast foreword to this year, I decided I was going to fix the rust myself in my spare time and then sand down the 1/4's and gate and have a body shop paint it for me. so after finding the fiberglass mess I decided to just cut it all out and start over again. Its at the body shop now for paint, I asked him to load pictures on my thumb drive so as soon as I get it back I will post up the pictures I saved to it. So now I need to track down a couple of doors, and maybe a cowl hood and then get the front 1/2 painted and it should be good as new...well with 144k on it anyway. Sarge

Re: Project THOR Shop Truck
So over the past month or so Ive been plugging away, ran all new stainless brake lines, all new fuel lines, new fuel tank, pump, and sending unit.
Next on the list is a new rear diff cover, fresh fluid, and Im going to install a lock rite locker, do a tune up and hopefully drive it for another 144k. Im still looking for a nice set of GM doors for this thing, and I would love to put a set of buckets and a console in it, but trying to track down the tan interior parts seems like finding a hens tooth. I will post pics when I get it all cleaned up. Sarge
