1964 chevy k10 confusion is it a 350 or 327?

hello all I am brand new to this site and the chevy ownership and very confussed about my new purchase. I am 18 years old and just bought my own car it is a 1964 chevy k10 pick up. I was told that it is mainly original I've crawled around and checked everything out....12 bolt rear dana 44 front sm420 t221 transfer case and all that checks out with being original but I was told it was an original 327 in the truck however I can not verify this. In the engine compartment two sections about 5 in long and 2 in wide have been taken from the frame on the driver side and one section taken from the passenger frame which i am not sure but i would guess use to be old locations of motor mounds leading me to believe the engine is not original. the engine is also fairly far back so i can not see the casting number in the back but up front the id number is VI2I3YS i have no idea what engine this is someone please helppp

Re: 1964 chevy k10 confusion is it a 350 or 327?

there was only the 283 installed in the 64K10 series other than I 6s.
does it have 3/8 bolt holes in the frt of the heads.
it would be interesting to see the sections of frame cut out and what for. 283-327 and 350 engines would all mount the same

Welcome to the board and to some of the best trucks ever made.

IIRC it was 1966 before the factories installed a 327.

Frame cut outs could have been for headers.

Re: 1964 chevy k10 confusion is it a 350 or 327?

does it have 6 or 8 stud wheels. the ser# is for a k20. you have 4k154. that ser # should be either k1504 or k1534 depending on fenderside or wide side. it should have a 127" wheel base with that ser # What you more than likely have is one ofthose hash up body changes on a different frame. it was more than likely a 2 wheel drive converted to a 4 w/drive. they didn't have the proper 4 x 4 eng perches so they scabbed in that piece of crap that you have for a frt mount. that was how the 55-59 truck v8 were mounted but with a little nicer crossmember
that is my take. there may be a ser# nbr on the top of the frame by the steering box

Re: 1964 chevy k10 confusion is it a 350 or 327?

It has 6 lug wheels. I ran the vin number through one of those online web sites and it came back telling be it was a 1/2 ton 4x4 long bed fleet side and the original color was a baby blue which all checks out however this could be completely wrong who knows how reliable these sites are. however all the running gear matches up and all have correct time tine of production the only think I can't seem to figure out is what engine it is.

With that engine having heads with the accessory holes, I would say that it is the '68 327 versus the '66 model. Of course that is assuming the engine is still original. If there is no VIN on the drivers side frame near the steering box, it is possible the frame could be a GMC frame. Those did not have the VIN on the frames. That might also explain the home made engine crossmember.

64 GMC 4 x 4 would have had side mounts on it?. the 60-62 4 x 4 had that tubular frt crossmember for eng mounting 63 also still used the 235-261 eng
the 230 i6 was also used in 64 and it would have been side mounted.
this truck also seems to have a hydraulic clutch; can't see any linkage on drivers side. to bad he didn't supply more pictures.

Re: 1964 chevy k10 confusion is it a 350 or 327?

sorry , I was looking at the wrong nbrs that should be a long w/base 4 x 4(1/2t). I still feel that it, the frame is a converted 2 whl drive the way that it is cut up and the way that the eng is mounted

The clutch linkage is all manual linkage right back by the firewall on the drivers side. I'm guessing it is a 327 like the seller said it just isn't original and was installed fairly poorly. I will get some more pictures up soon and see what you all think
