I would start with Carfax, or if you know a dealer, they "might" be able to search the VIN.

Car fax won't be able to help. I tried running mine there and the computer said that it didn't have enough numbers. I would also contact the DPS they may be able to help you for a small fee. If you ever seen "Gone in 60 Seconds" that's what the big black guy did to get all the info.

CarFax will show you how many times it has been sold and where it has been registered. It will not tell you who ownes or did own the truck.

Thumbs up

Here is another way to do it.

Call an insurance company, preferably yours, with the VIN# make & modle and tell them you are thinking of buying the truck and need a quote for insurance. Also tell them you would like to check and make sure the title is clear then see if they will tell you where it is registered. They might not give a name but if you can get city and state then all you have to do is call that local DMV and they should be able to help. Remember that all registered vehicles that are on U.S. roads are public record. So this is legal.

Good Luck!
