HELP with Stock AM Radio
How the **!@ is the radio supposed to bolt in. The PO cut the dash but I put the radio in anyway. Wired it up to a speaker in the door and it works fine. I can't see any place where a bracket would have attached. I've got it sitting on the ashtray top for now. Was there a bracket that went on the radio first? Any pictures inside the dash would be a real help?

It is supported by a bracket that is on the speaker mount, directly above the radio. Bolts to the back of the radio

That would make sense. I don't have the dash-mounted speaker (just the grate). So, does the speaker bolt up to the top of the dash?

you should look in the parts board for a new dash piece too... Hart_Rod has one for sale. it will require welding but it will get you back to stock..

I agree with Mike. You will have to replace the cut out portion. There are two metal cups that fit in the holes that have been cut out and then there are jamb nuts that screw onto the shafts to hold the radio in the dash. Orange71shorty is right about the speaker bracket, but it just supports the back of the radio and holds the speaker in place. It bolts to the firewall. LockDoc

Seeing this, I'm wondering if anyone has tacked a radio delete plate over a cut dash and trimmed it out for the radio to mount. If they are bigger than the cut hole, it might work???

I trimmed a piece from an old dash to use as a repair for the cut out radio opening. I used some epoxie to hold the repair panel in place and it is holding up well. A picture of the repair is attached.
The back of the radio is held up by a strap that hooks to the speaker support which is fastened to the inside of the fire wall. Some trucks were not originally equipped with radios but the dipples for the speaker mount are there for locating the mount. A picture of the speaker mount/radio support is attached. Jim

JimK-That looks terrific. I was hoping someone had a part of the dash as a source for exactly what you did. I can't imagine cutting a dash to put in a radio! Should be a crime. Thanks for the detail on the bracket too. I see someone on Ebay has the AM radio with knobs, speaker and brackets. I really don't want to buy another radio as this one works fine.

The speaker mount bolts to part of the inner firewall that is double walled. Nothing sticks through the engine side of the firewall
