Check out my visors - From mold back to old
These have been sitting in my shop for several years during Old Yeller's buildup and you wouldn't believe the amount of mold/mildew that accumulated on them.
I was afraid they were gonners but today while I was in an experimental mood I decided to try cleaning them up. The pictures speak for themselves. The Acetone worked best and the Gumout Carb cleaner was a very, very close second. The Lacquer thinner was OK and the Oops was a waste of time. If you can believe it, the visor that was nearly black came out just as clean as the visor beneath it.

brake clean is another good one. I used it to remove the mold from the body panels on my rig.

Just don't let the acetone sit for very long or it WILL eat into the material.

Mine were just as nasty. All I used was window cleaner and they cleaned right up...

I even let the acetone soak into the vinyl for several seconds which didn't harm it. It did strip the mold out a little easier. Also, acetone evaporates pretty quickly so its not going to stay in contact with the vinyl very long anyway. The Gumout also tended to strip off the surface layer of the vinyl like the acetone did but it did no harm overall. I did get a little bit of either acetone or Gumout on the bracket where the screw holes are and it did strip the paint. This isn't a big beal since I'm repainting the truck but be careful when it's yours.
