the c10 261 mystery

a couple of weeks ago i picked up a 62 c10 stepside longbox. it has a 261/4spd.
many many people have told me that the 261 is not the original engine but i just checked the numbers on the engine and they match the number on the truck info tag. so it is for sure original. the question i have is why did my truck come with a 261? they were only supposed to come in 2 tons, gmc's and candadian pontiac cars. ps i am in canada.

Re: the c10 261 mystery

From what I gathered it could be an option in Canada, but in the US it was only the big trucks that got it..

Here is some sites that might help with the engine number to see if it did come in your truck new.

The Canadians were always the lucky ones when it came to engine choice. lol Yes, those engine were available in smaller trucks.

Re: the c10 261 mystery

I found a brochure that says in 1962 only the 261 was available in all light duty trucks. http://www.oldcarbrochures.org/NA/GM...rucks-Brochure
