Re: first thread on my 67' stepper
1967 chevy stepside small window, gonna have some fun with it.
my wife bought it as a christmas present this past year. maybe itll be torture who knows. shes an old rust bucket that was heavily abused by our local township. my goal is to revive her and make her better than new, somthing special. |

Re: first thread on my 67' stepper
i know the bodys in terible shape but i wan to get it down to the bare frame and start from there. this is what i have considered to be a very long term project.
im thinking 4/6 drop w/ sway bars front and rear. already has 5 bolt conversion done(many moons ao from the look of it) disc brakes on the front drums in the rear. gonna stay like that just newer stuff. gonna need new trailing arms the stock ones are completly rotten just like the rest of the truck. deciding on make new ones or buy new ones. we'll see how things look the further i get down. |

Wow! That old girl has some major cancer!! Good luck with the rebuild. Make sure you get a tetanus booster before starting.

Re: first thread on my 67' stepper
I'd look for the year correct bedsides. Something about a newer bed or pieces of a newer bed on these trucks look cheesey to me. Thats just me, though.

Re: first thread on my 67' stepper
I think it's the rust.. once it gets into your blood, you just can't stop! It eats your wallet first. .. then your bed starts to look like a dog house, etc.
Good luck man. Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't worry too much on the training arms etc. Just pick up some from Nate and scrap the originals. If you're going to drop it he offers 1 and 3" drop built in to the arms. Cnotch it = no worries on the rails either. Just weld it in. I'd do a full Porterbuilt drop member front and rear.

Re: first thread on my 67' stepper
Dude, a Powerglide will take a bullet. I know guys who run them in race cars (bone stock) behind hot big blocks and they hold up..
Seriously. As long as it's fairly decent on the internals I'd say you're good with the glide.

The little purple Datsun has a Powerslide. It's only been 8.90 at 150mph though. Good luck with your stepper though! Lots of sheetmetal work ahead of ya! |
