Hello, I am a newbie and would like to intoduce myself and my project. I have a 60' stepside that I am customizing and surely will need some good advice from time to time. My first task is to upgrade to power steering and brakes. Are there other year trucks that I can use the parts from instead of buying all new parts? Trying to add pics but my files are to big, need to figure out how to make them smaller. (any help)?

As far as I've read (and I've read a bit on this), your best bet is to grab a 73-79 truck as a donor and use the upper and lower control arms, cross member, steering, and all brake parts. I'm not sure if the PS box will bolt up or not, but if not, hold it in the right place, make up a cardboard template for the mounting plate, and then transfer that to 1/4" plate steel. Weld on some tubing to prevent the bolts from crushing in the frame, and weld it in. Not too hard at all, and uber strong. Again, I'm pretty new to the old GM scene, but that's how I'd do it if it didn't bolt up.

I don't think you need the whole crossmember. Just the arms (so I've read). As far as resizing pics, I like this one if you have XP. No worries. That is just a direct link from here (5th from the bottom). Once it's installed you can just right click on the file without even opening it and rotate or re-size. The "small" setting is what works for posting them here. Make sure they are .jpg too.

From what I understand, no cross member is NEEDED....but to get it properly aligned, you want to grab it. 10 of 14 bolts will line up...that's not even fabrication in my book. Drill 4 holes and it's like having a newer truck under your old sheet metal.
