E-Bay - Chevy Parts Manual - Is it anything?
Have any of you bought this parts manual? Just wanted to know if it was anything before I threw away my cash.

I think you can get the actual catalogs (used)...not sure what they are going for. I bought mine about 6 years ago. I think some were sold off this board a while back so they do come up for sale off and on. I might be wrong so I will let others respond.

I bought a paper catalog dated 1979 Looks like it might be the same one.I "think" I gave 435.00 for it about a year ago.It would probably be handier if I were trying to score every option or really doing a 100 point reto.It does have some good info and lots of diagrams of parts. For the price you probably would get your moneys orth.

They are scanned from the original books so they are about impossible to search for parts. It costs hundreds to have a printer print them, but if you have access to a duplex printer, it might be fine.

Re: E-Bay - Chevy Parts Manual - Is it anything?
I bought one of those cd ones. Only thing I don't like is, it is not menu driven & a pia to find the part your looking for. It's helpful if you know what group number your part is in. That way you can just scroll on through to that group, then find your part. If I had to do it over, I wouldn't have bought it. I would just look out for the catalog. I have a GM parts group & parts number catalog for cars, and its a lot easier to use.

I feel better now. My guess was going to be $30-50. So I would have been in the ball park. I think a catalog would be better than a CD. JMHO

Another thing about this cd, is that the seller puts a water mark on it, and you can't do any copying. I think legally, he's breaking GM copy rights for selling this manual.

Re: E-Bay - Chevy Parts Manual - Is it anything?
I would just buy the assembly manual from one of the board vendors. $35 to $45 bucks and it is better then the CD, I have it and hardly use it.

Re: E-Bay - Chevy Parts Manual - Is it anything?
The assembly manual is good. The parts manual is, too. Having both is better. It really helps to know that the part you are looking for is contained in a specific "group". But, the group you think it should be in, ain't always where it is. Finding a good parts man is great, especially one who is willing to help you find that elusive bit of info you need.
I bought the Parts Manual for Pontiac, back in '79-80. Seems like it was about $20 and came in a box that was rectangular and about 6-inches deep...and full of pages. It came in handy for me when I was looking for parts for my '67 Firebird. I got a lot of NOS parts, at the time. Car, and parts, are long gone..........I miss it, too.

Re: E-Bay - Chevy Parts Manual - Is it anything?
I find the service manual to be great. Indexed and fairly easy to find stuff. The assembly manual is a pain. No index, small type, obscure text. Worth having, but I've gone through it 4 or 5 times, marking pages and writing notes. Haven't seen the parts manual.
