1bbl to 2bbl conv RESULTS
Well, I mentioned on here a while ago about going to a 2 barrel for my inline 6 through the use of a Summit Racing adapter. And the results...
I got the motor to run. I drove it around and right away I could tell, it definetly had power. I only pushed in the accelerator a slight bit and it just opened up and asked to race. I was feeling really good about it. The only negative side was that I could not get the damn thing to idle steady. It wanted to run too lean or too rich. It was really bad in gear and at a complete stop and liekd to overlaod on fuel. This is with a brand new Rochester 2bbl by the way. Anyway, that's it. The one barrel is back on and actually isn't too bad. It turns out the float levels on it were WAY wrong and that's why it kept overloading on gas. Now I'm not afraid to floor the motha'. But it's still slow. I know some had their doubts on speed imrpovement, but I felt it. It felt like it was giving the motor all the gas it could and would have no trouble supplying more. Do y'understand? It felt like it had more muscle behind it basically. As for the 2bbl, I returned it to Kragen and got credit back for a used one from the scrap yard. As for the adapter... it makes a lovely paper weight. Anybody who'd like to shed some light on the subject of why my 2bbl wouldn't idle right, I'm willing to read lengthy essays. It's not like I have a V8 yet or anything. The 6 pack is still under the hood. And the adapter is right here next to me (holding down papers). Here's a picture by the way. To bad it didn't work out...was your fuel line crimped near the carb like that the whole time?

Well yes. Orignally no it was straight going into the 1bbl but we had to bend it aorund to the new inlet location.

That could have been starving it for fuel (cuasing you to overly richen it to keep running?) Just a guess, but I would have fiddled with it some more. And the two barrel is going to put more fuel in at idle, so upping the idle and leaning it out, as well upping the timing may all have helped.

I was told you pretty much need to junk the OE intake and exhaust manifold if you want to run more than the stock Carb.......From the inline experts

I'd agree with TP, you'll need to look at the whole system before making any changes. Dual exhaust would be nice, but then you'll probably have to make the exhaust manifolds flow better, along with the head. Then the intake manifold would be restrictive. Check out inliners.org for some more performance discussion if you haven't already. Not much for pics over there, but more focus on the 6 bangers.

Yeah I had figured that the stock manifolds were garbage (race car wise). But at 300 bucks I'm not so comfortable about investing in a new manifold for a 40 year old motor that's ben rebuilt once sometime in the 80's.
I got Clifford headers used for this thing and "hung 'em on". I didn't like how low they sat, only 6"-7" off the ground. And I like to go offroad (mildly).

Honestly, these will run forever on a rebuild done right...............They aren't like a V-8, low rpm motors built right in the design room will last. The engine I am using in my K has unknown amount of miles on it, and was nobody ever put a wrench to it. The guy we got the C-10 from it was in said he ran it from our town, to his, and back atleast 1 time a day, most of the time it was 2 round trips.........40 miles one way. Did that for years, truck wouldn't pass DOT inspection so he used it as his farm truck, and put who knows how many miles on it.........Speedo didn't work he said for a long time. We bought it and put 50,000 or so on it(Fixed the speedo) as our farm truck. We did have to pull the pan because the spot welded nut inside the pan broke and we couldn't get the plug tight while it was still in that C-10..............Pulled acouple rod and main caps, some wear, but not much, everything else looked fine.......No sluge.......Buttoned it back up and I and going to run it now..........Parted the C-10.

Over to the classifieds, there's a 4bbl. Offy intake for 150 bucks. That, a Quadrajet (cheap) and a Clifford cam, along with some headers, boy that thing would run.
