back spacing question
I need to know if 5.5" back spacing on a 17" rim is too much for out trucks?I think the rear would be fine, but I am worried about the front and have found a smokin deal on some wheels, but do not know if they will work or not... TIA...Randy

Re: back spacing question
Here's what I know...
a 17x8 with 5 inch backspace works on a lowered truck. In the back, the tires are 275/60/17, which is quite wide and they clear the bed fine. With the extra 1/2 of b.s. you'd want to run a tire that didn't bulge off the rim too much or it would rub for sure.

Re: back spacing question
My first thought would be that is too much positive offset (assuming 8" wide wheel). you're only going to have 2.5 inches on the other side of the rim. Might look a little funny with it tucked that far into the wheel well.
How wide are the wheels you are looking at.

Re: back spacing question
Byrd,
Is it a stepside or a fleetside? There is a difference, ask me how I know. Also, rearends from 67 to 70 are not the same width as the 71 - 72s. On the front, I'm using 4.5" back space with 255/60R17 and they fit perfect. Here's a shot from the back with 5" B.S. and 285/60R17s on a 9.5" wide rim I'd say 5.5" would fit better with no chance of rubbing, but real close to the inside of the box. That being said, a 5" back space on a 71-72 fleetside would fit perfectly. Pete Last edited by Shock_Me; 03-26-2007 at 07:32 PM. |

Re: back spacing question
It's a 71 rear axle. Right now if the truck bottomed out, the tires would probably rub. We will probably change the back rims to a 5.5" backspace to avoid this.
