Mine is out and done for....

Went to just get the stock replacement and its about $100!!

Looking through summit, ebay, etc and dont know if I should order the stock OE replacement, a higher flow, or just swap it all over and get an electric pump and fans.

Difference between long and short (Nose cone?)
Benefits to either? Issues with one or the other?

If anyone has a good suggestion on brand as well please feel free to let me know!

Long and short water pumps are different. You need to know which one you have. What side of the engine is your alternator on? If it is on the drivers side, you have a short water pump. If it is on the passenger side, you have a long water pump.

Had a stock cast iron GM pump, Replaced it with electric and had heating problems with 2 duel electric fans . Replaced with the aluminum Edelbrock high flow belt drive pump and works great, and it looks good too

To add to leddzeps comment, if you change from short to long or long to short, you also have to change alternator brackets, p/s brackets, and all the pullys which gets pricey. I could be wrong but I think the p/s pump may also be different.

If it were me, I would stay away from electric pumps for a daily driver. $100.00 for a new stock replacement is not bad as they are getting $60.00 to $70.00 for a reman. Reman are ok but after they have been remanufactured a few times the cores get a little beat up and fail more often.

Just some thoughts.

I just went through this. Bought a GMB from Amazon. Really nice casting, great price, good feel, all the holes and posts lined up with no issues.

This was after looking at Autozone's $59.99 HD unit, and both offerings they had at O'reilly (new and rebuilt).

I've got a Prime acct so the shipping was free and the unit was $34.99 but I see they're currently out of stock for the one sold by amazon themselves.

Same unit sells for $56 at Summit.

edit: Nevermind - this is for the long pump. Take a look at GMB anyways.

Spend the $100 and get a quality replacement. It is the most economical and sensible route to take if there are no other problems with your cooling system.

If you have time, take yours and have it rebuilt. I had one done at CarQuest and it was like $40 and I had MY core back. Took about 2 weeks I think.

i'd look at the aftermarket cast aluminium water pumps// i have always figured every little bit of weight taht you can save is worth it

I see they have other finishes now like black and endurashine. I like the cast look to match my intake. It works well for me

No. Won't clear. Besides that you would need all new brackets...

i think most serpintine use reverse rotation pumps so determine that first b4 goin any further

Cp5038 is orielly's part number for the reverse rotation water pump. less the 50 bucks. Its the same one I am using on my big block with the KWIK Performance adapter plates to use sbc brackets.

Saw a nice marine short pump on Ebay, had straight cut brass impeller so it could run clockwise or counter.

IMO a straight cut impeller wod not pump well
