Stray "hot" wire by the heater/AC controls
Hey folks, while trying to track down my problem with my heater and tracing the vacumn lines I pulled the ash tray and noticed this wire just sticking up in the back, not attached to anything. I pulled it out the bottom to test it and it is always hot. Does anyone know where this wire goes? Here is a picture of the wire and also the ash tray where it was found. BTW, the heater motor and AC all work.

This truck never had a Cig. Lighter
 . My grandfather originally bought it in 71 and he didn't smoke and ordered it without. It still has the original black plug. Although it wouldn't suprise me if the they just let this hot wire for the cig lighter loose in the underside of the dash. It doesn't sound very safe.

I agree on the cig. lighter wire. Tell tale is the "rounded" coupling in the wire end. Mounts to the round post on the back of the cig. lighter barrel. Try tracing it back to the fuse block, should be a spot on the fuse block marked "Cig Lighter" or such. Even if your Grandfather ordered it without, perhaps it slipped in as a mistake on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon build and was just "tucked" up out of the way all these years? Cig lighter wire is always hot even with ignition off if I recall.

if it's got any other option packages on it other than the custom camper package, then the dealer probably removed it and installed the plug in the dash to fill the hole.
