1970 C10 Antenna delete plate? Do they exhist?

Hello fellas,

I did a search and found nothing. Searching the internet, I found delete plates for many many vehicle's, but nothing for our trucks. Does anyone know of an antenna delete plate they can direct me to? Truck is already painted and too late to cover up the hole with body work.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know of a delete plate, but there are radio delete cowls out there with no holes in them. Maybe locate one of those and have it painted to match.

If the truck is not optioned for a Factory radio, they don't punch a hole in the cowl.
Any Antenna Delete piece would be aftermarket.

Those are desirable. That's exactly what this guy needs but he didn't know until after painting. I see people fighting over radio delete plates but I never see talk about the delete cowls. I snatched one up years ago because most got drilled for an aftermarket radio

Otis has a delete cowl, I had it off during my heater A/C rebuild and specifically checked to see if it was filled in.

My C20 has the delete cowl and radio delete plate & a plastic plug where the cigarette lighter would be, just like it came from the factory.

Re: 1970 C10 Antenna delete plate? Do they exhist?

It came off a 68 custom 1500 that had only one option, WSW tires. I have had it on numerous pickups down the years. It’s now a wall piece because nobody seems to want one when one’s available. When there is a need none are available ? Typically for me lately. I will be moving next year so it will be recycled .

Cut a piece of sheet metal and weld a flush fit patch in there. Take your time and precision grind it. It won't need any filler. That is a curved stamped area that takes to a patch well. If your truck is orig paint, it can be color matched.

I think you have inadvertently come up with a great idea for the aftermarket.

If I could buy an actual antenna delete plate - maybe a small bowtie emblem that fit in the antennae hole - I probably would.

Put a new antenna in and forget probably never noticed, unless you said something. Cheap fix.

This is exactly what I did. Made a patch and welded it in. It makes cleaning the windshield so much easier.

the make a patch and weld it in is a great way to patch the hole. The problem here is this truck has fresh paint. It looks like the cowl cover will need to be redone or just put an antenna on it

Re: 1970 C10 Antenna delete plate? Do they exhist?

I just carefully cut a patch and welded it in to eliminate the antenna. I will mostly be listening to SXM, but I am still connecting a 'hidden antenna inside the cab IF I want to listen to local stations. Here are some before and after pics. I would say modify the one you have, it will be the easiest, or find a cowl panel that doesn't have the hole so you can rever back if you want the antenna.

Re: 1970 C10 Antenna delete plate? Do they exhist?

In the 50's, my older brother worked summers at our cousins Chrysler/Plymouth dealership, alongside a cousin of the same age. One of their jobs was Dealer Prep on the new cars. The new cars came in with a trunk full of hub caps, mirrors, antennas, owners manuals, window stickers, info tags and other assorted items. Included were the templates for drilling the holes.

In those days, Hobo's traveled the rails and mirrors and antennas would get broken off. Hubcaps stolen.

Dealers used to charge dealer prep for a reason. Today they just wash the car and still charge for prep.

I don't know how Chevy delivered their Cars and Trucks. If Chevy delivered their trucks with antennas installed there would be two different cowl part numbers for cowls used on trucks with/without radio.

Anyone know

I had to match the "patina" or surface rust in color and texture to pull it off. I knew if anyone saw the delete plate, they would be looking for a hole in the cowl. It worked out ok..

Re: 1970 C10 Antenna delete plate? Do they exhist?

68C/10Driver -- That's a great skin graft job on deleting the Antenna hole.
I, on the other hand, bought a '67 K/10 Suburban in 1993 that had no factory radio, so no antenna hole. The PO had put an Alpine cassette AM/FM rig in the dash, and a loose antenna flopped around on the dash top.
I remedied that by removing the cowl and drilling a 1/4'' pilot hole for a Greenlee 1'' hole punch. But since my CB Quarter Wave fiberglas whip was on the Passenger side rear quarter panel, I mounted my AM/FM antenna on the Drivers side.
Some people have asked if the truck was an Export Model, with the antenna on the left, but no, I modified it.
Funny how 30 years later, the trend has reversed -- technologies come and go -- and the idea of antenna holes is abhorrent to modern users. Same with in-door speakers.

No I've never done it but I see no reason it wouldn't work, it's just a simple metal hole plug. You would actually need a 1-1/8" plug for a stock antenna hole. You can find these at about any large hardware store as well.

I have used one to delete a rear wiper in a sports car I used to have. I scuffed it and painted it to match.
