Which internally regulated alternator?
This weekend I plan on converting my externally regulated alternator with an internally regulated unit. I’ve got a lot of good information on how to do it but was wondering which alternator you guys have been using. Any information you guys might have as far part number, make, model, or how many amps it might produce would be very helpful.

Easiest swap is to the 10SI or 12SI, which will give you 60-80 amps, depending on the model. When I bought one last year, my local parts store advised against the Delco rebuilds, said the were not lasting. He was having the best results out of the Performance Parts?? brand, said Bosch were almost as good but cost a lot more.

I just put a 10SI on my truck, Delco rebuild. Bought it at the parts store for $38. Working good so far!

You can use one from a 85 Pontiac Trans Am. They go up to 108 amp.

A friend of mine just picked up a single wire alternator from NAPA for under $60, not sure on amp or part number, but he just called and asked about a one wire set up and they said they had one in stock. You just hook up a hot wire, that is it!

Im still around. I've been really busy with the military thing. i'll be leaving for DC on June 1st. I'm just trying to get the truck ready for the long drive. I plan on replacing the fluids, belts, hoses, aand alternator before I leave. I also need to take care of some wiring issues. It looks like i'll be going with an alternator from a 85 Pontiac Trans Am.
