Gear Column - Shift Problems
Gear Shift Linkage
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1969 Chevrolet C-10 with column shift. The linkage on the shift causes problem in shifting. Sometimes it is necessary to raise the hood and align a couple of items near firewall. Supposedly had this adjusted. Is there anything that can be done to improve or is replacement of the lingage necessary. Would appreciate comments to solve this problem. Especially troublesome if in traffic at a light or whatever. Advise. Thanks. This is a copy and paste of a post that I did over a year ago. My truck is in the shop now because the shift locked up and needs parts to repair. The shop says this is related some bushings and shifter levers. Where can I obtain these parts? Would appreciate any techincal or personal comments related to this. Thanks. |

Re: Gear Column - Shift Problems
The most common problem with what you have is the mentioned rubber grommets that go in both ends of the links.
I bought mine at the GM/Chevrolet dealer (they were still available) but I believe that you can purchase them at some auto store like Napa. Then do another realignment of the links while in neutral... |
