This pic shows the wire hanging down next to the block.

The next question I have is in this pic ther is a yellow wire that is not attached to anything. It is running with the purple wire that goed to the starter. Could some one tell me what it is for? I looked at the wire diagram last night and for the life of me I can not figure out what it is for !

1st pic is reverse wiring, connects to switch on 4 speed tranny.

Yellow wire goes to starter solenoid terminal, opposite of the purple wire

One more just for the he!! of it. This is some of the things that I have to deal with ! Everyday I find something new that is totally wrong with this burb. Like last night the carb is spray'n fuel all over the place, tranny line to cooler is cut and bursted, spray'n fluid everywere under the hood. Oh what fun it is. Two week and all the little bugs shoud be gone !!

There are 2 connections on your solenoid. The purple connects to one, the yellow to the other. I can't remember which goes to which however and I'm not where I can check.

That other thing is not stock, where do the wires lead? It may have been some type of dual battery hookup?

If the wires are going to your starter, the p.o. added a solenoid to cure a hot start problem. It looks the same as older ford solenoids.

On the picture of the solenoid, my guess is that it is tied into the starter solenoid to help solve a "hot start" problem based on its location.

On your factory starter solenoid, the purple wire goes on the inside and the yellow wire goes on the outside post. The yellow wire is not needed if your vehicle has an HEI distributor.

Godd luck, it looks like you are trying to straighten out a plate of spaggetti!

the yellow wire went to the small outside terminal of the starter it was there to provide a full 12 volts to the points-type distributor coilif it has been changed to a hei type of distributor it's not needed, and if you have a hei type distrib you have to make sure that you have a new feed goig to it because the original feed for the distrib is a resistance wire that only feeds 7-8 volts to the coil

The first wire is for the reverse light . The switch should be located on upper driver side of your tranny . Assuming it hasn't been converted to automatic

WOW all this info that i should have put in to begin with. Now lets start with the wireing to the started just to get eveything rite.

purple = starter
yellow = starter if i have the coil set up. It is HEI set now. so the yellow wire is no longer needed !! CORRECT

As for the solenoid it is not connected to the starter at all as far as I can tell. The person before me of even before him has put the seats out of a 1996 chevy truck all electric, plus the electric fan, and the rear A/C ( that is not stock).

Correct, the yellow wire in no longer used with HEI.
That sure looks like a remote solenoid setup to me.

do what i did but with only one harness at a time, take the harness completly out of the truck, then find a spot like your living room floor so you can see the tv, get your wiring diagram, lots of extra wire, and all your crimping supplies, and tape, at the place where it plugs to the fuse block cut about 6-10 inches off splice in a new peice of wire and then run it along the original until you get the length that you need and then splice the new piece and voila, a like new wireing harness

Guys,

With reference to the multi-wire plug in the first pic, it sure looks like there are four wires and four terminals there. It looks like the tail light harness--firewall connector to me.

Of course, I wear thick glasses. . . .

ok ok
1st pic, reverse lights, from a np435. Has been converted to a 700r4

3rd and 4th pic, relay added by PO for the rear ac to be turned on by a switch under the dash. It is now "tempprally" hooked up to run the electric fan.

ok guys thanks for all the help but i got a few more little questions for you !! here goes

The solenoid has been removed ! Now how do I hook up the hot wire to the new fuse block added for the power seats? can I add it to the + battercable it's self? Or should I add it to the little block thing on the fire wall? I'll get a pic ! In the pic with the solenoid above it is next to the relay.

In the next pic there is a yellow (spliced) to a red wire that one runs down to the starter ! Also the back up light plug thing. now ther is this one here on the right, it goes from green (spliced) to red, that was pluged into the temp gauge, on the block. Is the green the correct color for the temp wire? Thanks
