Tailgate paint scheme
So I am restoring a 72 chevy C20 deluxe truck on medium green and white. I have everything sand blasted and painted or almost painted. I loved the patina on the tailgate recessed letters, but was not able to keep it from getting blasted. So should I make the tailgate look like new, try to recreate the faded lettering, or something else. I am looking for ideas. I will probably paint it in 2 weeks or so.

Re: Tailgate paint scheme
I would say if you're blasting and painting the truck like new, paint the letters like new also. It would look like something went wrong with the paint if the rest of the truck is new, and only the letters are faded out.

Re: Tailgate paint scheme
Original paint or like new; n'er the twain shall meet. Or something like that. The rest of the truck will be new and nice, so should the tailgate.

Re: Tailgate paint scheme
Patina tailgate only with the rest restored would look a bit odd. If on a resto, resto it all.

Re: Tailgate paint scheme
With white fleetsides option on a lower level trim (i.e. no aluminum trim band covering the recessed letters), were the letters painted black or always body color like this truck?
...and like new is my vote also

Re: Tailgate paint scheme
Stomper. All the ones I have seen have been painted body colors, but I have only limited experience with it. I know my truck was never repainted and it had originally been painted as seen in the posted picture. Maybe somebody with more experience will chime in.
