Pic Thread: Station Wagons
It's funny how the station wagon once was major model in all the makes only to be phased out. And when you look at what people want from a vehicle today, it's the station wagon that could give it. They were really the first light trucks, then came the pickup. No surprise the Suburban goes back so far. Before the name, it was just a station wagon.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons
My gram had a Chevelle (or Malibu cant remember) station wagon. We hated that car back then. Wish I had it now. It was a later 70's/early 80's tan/gold in color.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons
I think station wagons are making a big comeback...or at least a small comeback.
Particularly the big deluxe land touring ones with the woodgrain, roof windows, racks, etc. The bigger the better it seems. I think they are pretty cool and I like that you see so few of them, they really stand out in a neat way. All good Coley

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons
Wagons were great , but after "cash for clunkers" and high prices paid for scrap a while back trying to find a big block Chevy wagon is tough and expensive .

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons
I don't think any big block Chevy wagons got traded in for $2,000 or scrapped for less. They were let go long before that time for being undesirable. They started coming back with increased interest in nostalgic drags and the cruise-in scene. In the '90s you could still get one cheap.

My '66 Chevelle. 283, Powerglide, posi rear. One heck of a great camping car. Hauled tons of junk in that thing. I actually miss that old wagon.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons
That guy Chuck at Hot Rod or Super Chevy mag had a neat Chevelle wagon or two. Big block and SS looking.
I never owned one but I like the look of the Olds Vista Cruiser wagon. I guess it's the raised rear roof with glass windows on top that I like. Picture that one in 442 trim.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons
A lot of Vista Cruisers bit the dust from the custom van crowd who would cut off the Vista roof and add it to their van .

I found a few pictures from the local show's over the last few years. I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes a nice 'wagon .

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons
So true about the Vista Cruiser tops donated to Vans. I went to a Vista Cruiser Club of America show and they were all converted to convertibles!
Cool Willys. I bet they do rode like a buggy. Yuccales, I bet if you rolled up to a cruise-in only so many would take notice, but now people would flock to it. It seemed wagons were totally uncool, then they got to be "just ok" with us lovers hiding in the bushes (). Now that they really stand out a show isn't complete w/o a wagon with a surfboard on top... even in Kansas!

Love these pics! The two '69's are fantastic. My opinion of course, but I think the '69 Chevelle, whether it be the car, wagon or El Camino is one of the best body designs GM ever came up with.
