71 Parking Brake Cable Install

Hey guys, Im having a hard time picturing how this works... I bought some rear section cables for my parking brake system, and they came not looking like I am seeing on my truck.

I removed my trailing arms and the only way I could get the brake cables off was to cut and replace due to the extreme amounts of corrosion.
The new cables look right on the forward end that goes into the mount, however the rear section(after the sheathing) has a long spring and the ferrule. I dont see the spring on the cables that are currently installed.

Does the spring go internal to the brake drum? Just trying to get this figured out before I go in and so some investigative surgery!

The cable assembly goes into the drum backing plate at an angle; it connects to the arm that pulls the shoes out, though this might vary by axle (I have a Dana 60). I remember it being non-trivial to connect for some reason. The metal "plug" on the end of the cable hooks into the arm.

The spring cover should end up against a fitting that goes into the drum. Only the cable itself goes through and actually into the drum housing.

That spring section serves the same purpose as the plastic cable housings on your old ten speed bike, if that makes sense. Can't run the cable around a curve without it.

I dont think that would be necessary! I think I can figure it out from here, I just wanted to see if my thinking was correct. I appreciate the help
