Difference between 72 & 73 12 bolt?

What are the differences, if any, between the 12 bolt rear end in a 72 K10 and a 73 K10? Will a disc brake conversion kit for a 73 work on a 72?

Re: Difference between 72 & 73 12 bolt?

Basically they are the same dimension wise and internal with same outer mounting pads for the backing plates and such. Manufacturers didnt change much back when for sometimes 8-10 years or more so that tooling and dyes didnt have to be changed as much in the assembly line and factorys.
I dont see where a kit from a 72 wouldnt work for a 73 myself.

Re: Difference between 72 & 73 12 bolt?

That is what I thought. However, about a dozen places that I called about a rear disc package said that they did not offer a kit that would work with my 72 K10 (currently a 12 bolt drum.) Many of them did have kits for the 73 though, so I am confused about why they are not interchangeable...

Try http://www.classicperform.com/ or http://www.abspowerbrake.com/.

Both places sell a rear disk brake setup for the 67-72.

I just looked on www.abspowerbrake.com, it shows a kit for the 71 thru 87. I guess the 72 and 73 are the same.

Re: Difference between 72 & 73 12 bolt?

hate to high-jack the thread.

wasn't the chassis the same from 73 all the way till like 86 or so?

i have a buddy thats got an 86 body on a 79 chassis, and it was done by a guy tahts not that good at fabrication, just nuts and bolts.

....but if i have a coil sprung truck, i didn't think that 73-86 had coil springs anymore?
