rear shackles...which way is correct?

I was reading on the forums and I noticed that Jebb pointed out that the shackle looked dangerous...

This is the same as mine was setup when i got the truck so I put it back together that way.

I then notice that Jebb has them in this way...

which looks like it makes for more room for the shackle to move and would have made a couple nights of fighting to put my leafs back in a lot easier!

I am assuming that the way Jebb put his back in is the correct way. Right?

If so, I will be moving mine around this week after work one day.

Re: rear shackles...which way is correct?

Mine was dangerous because one of them were broken. (The bottom stud is broken, you can see that it is just hangning there if you look close)To be honest, I still need to pull the rear end for rebuild and it was just put together quickly to make it roll again. I didn't even notice that I did that. I may loose alittle of my squat by changing it back around but I will put it back now that I see it when I am back there again.

Ah, did not notice the broken part. yeah that would be dangerous!

Just a helpfull note that would have saved me a ton of time on my leaf springs.

The first time I put them together I made some mistakes.

First mistake was when putting in the new brass bushing in the front of the leaf rather then just press it in and then have to rat file it to get the pin through I heard that if you freeze the brass bushing first it will go in a lot easier.

Second mistake I made was to hook the leaf up in the rear shackle then fight like mad to get the leaf in the front mount and lined up so the pin could go through.

It is so much easier to put the leaf on a floorjack and put the front together first then just push down on the leaf and it will go right into the shackle.

If you move yours back to the top that rear might be dragging hehe. it is low! looks great though. I can not wait till sunday when i pick up my shortbed and get to start working on it.

Good luck on her and thanks for the pointers, I will use all that when I am ready to put it together "for real".
