Lightbulb If you want to do a 5.3/4L60E install, lots of pictures and info.

I know a lot of guys are doing these installs (or wanting to do one). I'm doing two of these myself, one in my 69 Suburban and one in my 67 CrewCab. I thought I would start a thread that would focus on trying to make this easier or at least take out some of the guess work. Maybe one of the moderators might tag it to the top, because it seems like it is asked daily. I know Shifty and a bunch of the other guys have done a lot of research on this and they should feel free to add as much information as they would like and I will go back and update the thread. Like I said, the goal is to have a thread that would allow most anyone do this installation.

I'm going to break the install up in parts.

1. Mechanical
a. Engine/Transmission (initial purchase and type)
b. Motor/transmission mounts
c. Shift linkage
d. exhaust
e. drive shaft(s)
2. Electrical
a. internal harness
b. fuel injection harness

3. Fuel system
a. fuel tanks
b. fuel pumps
c. fuel lines

4. Cooling system
a. radiators
b. radiator hoses
c. cooling fans (mechanical electrical)

5. A/C/ heat
a. Brands
b. components

6. Miscellaneous

Mechanical

Mechanical

Initial engine/tranny purchase

You can get these a lot of different places - Ebay, salvage yards, Craigslists, they're even on our board. You can get them in many different versions from 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and even the Corvette/Camaro LS1s in varying configurations. The biggest difference is the cost/HP/miles (they go up in order). Llet your budget help you decide what you're going to buy,. The only thing I would reccommend is, buy it complete with accessories and a wiring harness (even if you don't use it). Piecing them together gets pretty costly (especially if you don't know what to look for). I've seen the prices run from $1500 to $5500. Just as an example for my 69 Suburban, I paid $3350 (including shipping) for a 2006 5.3/4L60E with 10 miles on it. It included all the accessories, wiring harness, exhaust to the cats and even the electric gas pedal for the drive by wire.

Motor/Transmission mounts:

Once again, a lot of options here. Motor adapter plates sold by, Street and Performance, CPP, ECE and others. Transmission mounts are sold by just about everyone. The biggest difference is the placement of the motor. The adpater plates move the motor back about 4 inches. Some like this because it gets it closer to the firewall. However it creates other issues, such as header clearances and a/c compressor clearances with the frame. I chose to go with ECE motor mounts because they helped avoid some of these issues and they are pretty much bolt in. I also did some R&D for them, and they now offer a bolt in motor mount/transmission mount kit for the 4.8/5.3/4L60E motors (Ask for Stan if you call to find out).
