New exahust opinions..

I am going to buy some new exhaust pipes all the way down. I was thinking about putting like 2 1/2 inch diam. or 3 to 3 1/2. With the pipes being that wide, would it make it loud? Cause thats not what I want. I want the ' get outta my way ' sound. not the ' I am stupid my truck is so loud ' sound. Any opinions?

A nice 2.5 system should be just fine.

Headers or manifolds? What type mufflers? In my opinion if the pipes are too big it sounds like your in a tunnel. Some of the guys on here have posted sound files of their exhausts, check them out and find what you like.

the bigger the pipe dia, the louder it will be. As a rule, a very healthy sb, or mild bb doesnt need more that 2 1/2" pipe on a dual system....crazyL

2.5" is good for a small block up to 400 HP.....
Alot of guys say that 2.5" is too big for a stock motor, and they are right. But, it does sould cool!

One of my friends has 2.5" dual pipes and generic Flowmasters on a stock 305 with log-style manifolds....it actually sounds really good! You would never guess that it is a 305 until you drive it, lol..

I have headers, dual 2.5" pipes, and 40 Series Delta Flow Flowmasters on my truck, dumped before the rear axle. It sounds GOOD, but it gets a bit loud on extended highway trips when i am pulling 3k rpm the whole way....but hey, i'm 19 so loud is good

I have a stock 327 with a 2bbl carb. (Plan on big cam and 4bbl)
I have the stock manifolds (2.25"outlets), then go to 2.5" all the way out. I'm running a 'true' dual (no x-over) with 50-series Flowmasters. The exhaust kinda resonates a little above idle (kinda annoying when dragging main), but it doesn't get all too much louder at upper RPM than it does at lower (just sounds more raspy). I don't hear it much at all on the highway running 80 turning 3000, prob due to road/wind/old truck vibration noise.

I have a 327, hopped up a little. Ceramic headers, delta flow 40 series flowmasters. I am using 3 inch pipe that will exit infront of the rear tires.

thats how I plan to do the exhaust also. in front of the rear wheels. looks nice. My truck pic is listed somewhere here, but I am going to in the very near future be looking for some rims again. the ones I got have a bit of rust on them. And maybe a shell to. any custome shells out their that woudl look good and match my trucks.?

both of my trucks dump before the rear tires. kinda strange to find 2 trucks like that imo. i didnt do it. po's did it

ive got 3'' front to rear, straight all the way back with 40s flowmasters on my 383 stroker, WOW it sounds nice

I see it a lot. It's hard as hell to get two pipes out over the axle without hitting the panhard bar on the rear end. Lots of guys just dump it out like that because it's easier. My trucks are always lowered at least 4-6 inches in the back. No pipe room whatsoever then.

2.5"....the bigger diameter you go the louder it seems to be.

Here's my 468 with 9:1 compression, comp solid lifter cam 236 @.050 duration, .561 lift with 110 lobe separation, pocket ported heads (ovals), port matched intake and a q jet carb, exhaust system with this clip is TRUCK manifolds, 2 1/4 duals running through 24" glasspacks. I have since replaced the manifolds with flowtech headers, full 3 inch pipes into the stage 1 mufflers (dunno who makes them, the exhaust shop carried them) and then reduced to 2 1/2 pipe. I need to get a sound clip of that. Hope this attachment works!!!

a BETTER soundclip of my exhaust is available there. They used my truck for the 468 CI V8 soundclip. Like I said, I need to get an updated clip with my headers. I think my truck sounded meaner with the manifolds on but the performance wasn't there like it is now with headers.
