Best coil springs and shocks for '72 Fleetside.
I bought a 1972 1/2 ton fleetside (coil springs front and rear) and I want to keep it stock stance but improve the weight carrying ability somewhat. The factory shocks and springs need replacing and it had, as an option, HD rear springs from the factory. I would like the best variable load springs all around and the best front shocks and was thinking of air shocks in the back to improve its ability to carry more. Should I go to 3/4 ton springs and shocks? Any and all suggestions and thoughts would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

As far as springs go, I put air lift bags on my 66 sub years ago gave me the best, a good ride and load . Had a good ride and when I needed to haul something I would air up the bags

Re: Best coil springs and shocks for '72 Fleetside.
just put the the 3/4 ton rear springs on your truck and call it a day. it is the simplest, cleanest swap and will look stock and ride good since you are only stiffening up the rear. it will put the rear up in the air a bit more (springs compress less due to higher rate) but that is an added plus when you are loading it down. 1/2 ton coils are junk and very prone to sag. the 3/4 ton units were optional on the 1/2 tons and should have been standard equipment in my honest opinion. if the fronts are bad, just replace with stock 1/2 ton or upgrade to the big block units and the ride will be fine. personally i think my 72 burb 3/4 ton rides almost as smooth as a 1/2 ton on most roads. if you need a car-like ride in your truck, buy a new cadillac version and quit complaining.......
